Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Tumuaki Taupuni - Head of Hall on a permanent, full-time basis to join the University Accommodation team.

The Directorate of Campus Operations is responsible for the development and implementation of the university’s student accommodation. We are looking for a Tumuaki taupuni - Head of Hall for a first-year catered hall that service a diverse group of young adults, including Māori and Pasifika, and international students.

As a Tumuaki Taupuni - Head of Hall, you will:

  • Champion community engagement and culture within the hall and as part of the wider hall community and university.
  • Lead a team to provide a high quality and safe residential experience for students.
  • Work with students to plan for their academic and personal wellbeing success.
  • Ensure team training and development and be part of the training programme for staff across all halls.
  • Ensure budgets are met or exceeded, and maintenance requirements are met.
  • Share on-call duties after hours with the Deputy/Deputies Head of Hall.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with young people, managing staff, as well as effectively managing financial and administrative systems.
  • Ensure that the residences are appropriately maintained to the required safety and wellbeing requirements of the University, and the budget is well managed.
  • Have a proven understanding of the duty of pastoral care, and experience supporting student academic success and personal growth.
  • Have experience as a first responder for critical incidents and of risk management in a welfare context.
